Unlocking the Power of MackinVIA in the Classroom
This 3-hour workshop is designed to amplify the usage of MackinVIA in the classroom. Within this workshop, participants will explore your school’s digital resources, learn how to navigate and apply the tools within MackinVIA, and work in teams to brainstorm practical ideas for bringing their learning back to their own classrooms. Each workshop is customized according to your grade levels (K-12) and goals.
Workshop includes an exploration of the following:
- Finding resources in MackinVIA
- Customizing the reading experience
- Digging into text with MackinVIA
- Planning and organizing resources using MackinVIA Groups
Take-aways for each attendee include additional digital resources, sample MackinVIA lesson plans, research, and more!

Director of Classroom Services
Deidra Purvis, Mackin’s Director of Classroom Services, has a B.S. in Secondary Education in English and is pursuing an MFA in Creative Writing. Deidra has taught grades 6-12 English/Language Arts, ranging from response to intervention instruction to honors classes. She specializes in developing learning environments which engage diverse learners and has worked with schools across the country to provide teachers with print and digital classroom libraries that serve as windows and mirrors for all students in the classroom. Deidra is also a member of NCTE and The Loft Literary Center.
Director of Digital Services
Mesa Heise, Mackin’s Director of Digital Services, brings a wealth of experience to the company and the customers it serves. Mesa educates teachers and librarians on the services and value of Mackin and their free digital resource management system, MackinVIA. Mesa has been instrumental in the design of the user interface and functionality of MackinVIA and the eBook reader. MackinVIA has remained at the forefront of the digital realm within PK-12 education.
